In Washington (WA) State, American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) people have the highest rates of cancers in any group of people based on race and ethnicity, especially in cancers related to obesity. Risk of some cancers can be reduced through diet and lifestyle modifications, but few nutrition and cooking programs exist that draw on cultural strengths in Tribal communities. In this study, researchers and community partners will work together to develop culturally appropriate nutrition resources and methods to improve cancer prevention and survivorship. The project will set the stage for future partnerships using nutrition to decrease cancer rates in AI/AN people in WA.
